What are web statistics?

Many organizations that are serious about internet business need good web statistics. Web statistics experts divide these statistics into two. These are web metrics and web analytics.

Web metrics are about statitics of the entire or some sectors of the internet. Examples may include how many people browse the internet, how much money transactions are carried out daily, what are the key indicators of successful internet business etc.

Web analytics on the other hand are about statics of a specific website e.g who visted your site yesterday, where do you get most traffic on your site from etc.

Both of the these statics are very important. The metrics enable you to predict the direction of the industry in terms of internet business, make forecasts for your business, decide which new revenue streams to be included, judge and adopt best practices and a host of other decisions that are crucial based on raw data. They will also help you measure your performance based on your this data.

Web analytics are key in judging how well you are achieving your goals. They need to be analysed and judged against some preset benchmarks. One will need to have tailored statistics depending on your goals. Most statistics are useless either because they have no relation to your business goals or are badly interprated for the users.

When paying for extra cost of statistics first ask why you need them. Answering this question will then take you to the next one-which are the best statics to use and finallywhere do I get the best of them at the best price.
